HERBAL UPDATE
(Return to page 12)

Ancient herbal remedies are usually not researched in the U.S. and therefore remain nebulous to many people. U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of a phase I/II clinical trial to test the efficacy of Kanglaite in treating non-small-cell lung cancer may help to change this non-research trend. Kanglaite is the first drug derived from a traditional Chinese herbal remedy to go into clinical trials in the United States. The anti-cancer therapy is made from the Coix Seed and certified for use in China.

As more clinical drug trials on herbals are completed by pharmaceutical companies prior to their marketing in the U.S., the need for experienced TCM practitioners will increase in an effort to avoid adverse effects stemming from their use.
"The anti-cancer therapy is made from the Coix Seed and certified for use in China."
