Caring for HIV-positive Inmates - Behind the Bars

From September 1, 2001 to October 5, 2001, corrections dietitians completed a survey (Figure 1) regarding the nutrition support and treatment within food service operations of HIV-positive inmates. Respondents represent both American and Canadian dietitians working in all types of correctional settings and providing nutritional and food service expertise to one or more facilities (Figure 2). The corrections dietitians are employed as consultant, federal, state (Department of Corrections-DOC), county, and contract management dietitians.

Thank you for agreeing to participate in this survey. Your participation will help us to understand how we may help people living with HIV within the correctional system. Please answer all questions based on the practices followed at the facility/facilities where you provide nutritional services.

9. Does the above information represent one or multiple state, federal, county or private facilities, adult or juvenile? Please specify – amount and type of facilities, i.e., entire DOC, 20 facilities, 1 county jail.
