There are “Eight Treatment Methods” called “Bian Zheng”, which correlate to the diagnosis of “pattern discrimination”. The methods are: diaphoresis (sweating), emesis (vomiting), purgation, balancing, warming, clearing, elimination, and tonification (strengthening). Specifically applied to HIV/AIDS, the TCM practitioner must address the two primary healthcare approaches dealing with strengthening the body’s resistance by building the body’s ‘root’ qi and vital substances as well as improving the immune system. The TCM practitioner strives to eliminate the virus and disease side effects such as clearing heat, resolving toxins, invigorating the blood, resolving stagnation, and softening and scattering hard accumulations. The TCM practitioner views
the person as a whole and searches for the underlying causes of the disease
imbalances based upon the manifestations. The practitioner addresses the
key primary organo-systems that produce, move and metabolize all fluids
namely Lung, Spleen and Kidney and seeks to build and balance Qi, Blood,
Yin and Yang.
