New dietary guidelines for diabetes, Evidence-Based Nutrition Principles and Recommendations for the Treatment and Prevention of Diabetes and Related Complications, note that a fiber-rich, low-fat diet with lots of fruits and vegetables and even an occasional glass of wine may be as effective as drug therapy to treat type 2 diabetes. CLINICIAN TOOLS

The HIV/AIDS Dietetic Practice Group of the American Dietetic Association offers a variety of resources related to nutrition and HIV. Visit their web site.

The Nutrition and Metabolic Newsletter helps clinicians to keep up-to-date on the latest on nutritional and metabolic testing.

Managing Diabetes with Oral Antidiabetic Agents is a free continuing education (CE) program designed to enhance the healthcare professional's knowledge and understanding of treatment options considered when using oral anti-diabetic medications for type 2 diabetes. The program offers one CE credit hour and expires on September 28, 2003.

The AIDS Research Information Center's HIV Glossary on CD-ROM is published by Intelligent Medical Objects, Inc. and the Cambridge Centre for Clinical Informatics, Inc. The CD-ROM is available for $49.95. ARIC is also offering the HIV Glossary CD as an incentive to make a tax-deductible donation.

A new comprehensive patient education booklet (64-pages) on diabetes is now available from the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse (NDIC). Your Guide to Diabetes: Type 1 and Type 2 is available online.
