Service Provisions:  40 hours per week. Vidya's time is divided between the Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center, Max Robinson center, Food bank, and the Bridge Back residential addiction treatment program.

Number of Other Program Nutritionists: According to Ms. Vedapurisan, “We have a peer educator program of RD trained peers. We have a nutritionist one afternoon a week at our Maryland facility and an occasional nutrition volunteer, a DTR, who provides nutrition education sessions at our Austin Center for Health and Living. Our Bridge Back clients have also received assessments from an RD at one of our sister agencies (Food and Friends) and have attended cooking classes.”

Patient Referral Source:  Physicians, case managers, access coordinators, and external agencies refer patients to the Whitman-Walker Clinic.

“As a whole, the clinic receives funds from government grants and contracts, Medicaid, United Way, and private contributions.
Funding Source: Ryan White Title I. As a whole, the clinic receives funds from government grants and contracts, Medicaid, United Way, and private contributions. The latter includes major fundraising events such as AIDS Walk and the National AIDS Marathon.
Client Demographics:  Our Elizabeth Taylor Medical Center sees about 2,000 medical/dental patients per annum, but only a fraction of clients are referred for nutritional counseling. Overall, the Whitman-Walker Clinic sees 2 out of 3 persons in the Washington, DC metropolitan area living with HIV/AIDS.

How often are patients seen? Patients are seen every 4-12 weeks.

Are all patients screened for nutritional risk?  Currently, patients are not screened since there is only one full-time RD.

How often do you provide nutritional assessments and follow-ups? Assessments are variable and determined by the condition and special needs of the patient. 

Other Provided Nutritional Services: The Whitman-Walker clinic provides on-site visits to satellite locations, BIAs, nutrition symposiums/town meetings for the community, and group classes.
